How do I choose colors?
With 11 different shades of foundation to match most coloring and ethnicities and 3 different formulations, Purely Cosmetics has every type of skin type and skin tone in mind. Our colors take into account that some skin tones are more yellow, while others pink, and some run more to a bronze tone. Shades can also be mixed together to get just the absolutely correct color for your own skin tone. Our Foundation Shade Selection page can help guide you to selecting shades that would most likely match your skin tone.
Is your company cruelty free?
Purely Cosmetics is a cruelty free company that does not test on animals. This is not to say, however, that we are vegan. Some of our products contain silk powder or carmine, and we do stock natural hair brushes. Our ingredients are listed on each product's page, enabling you to see whether it is vegan or not.
How do I choose which formula is best for me?
Our standard formula foundation offers the highest coverage. With the fewest ingredients, it is ideal for those with skin sensitivities, as well as for those with very oily skin (we recommend wearing Oil Absorb beneath).
If you have combination skin, you may find that the standard formula with added Silk Powder meets your needs. Silk powder pulls moisture from the air to hydrate your skin, while at the same time, absorbs excess oils.
If you have fine lines and pores, mature skin, or needing slightly less coverage, consider the Skin Smoothing formula. In addition to silk powder, the Skin Smoothing formula contains ingredients to nourish your skin and optically blur fine lines and pores.
What's all the hullabaloo about mineral makeup?
Natural mineral makeup, as loose mineral cosmetics are frequently called, consist of mica, iron oxides, and titanium oxides - which has been used for cosmetic purposes for thousands of years. No artifical fillers, no FD&C dyes - nothing that hasn't existed in the earth, and is completely pure for your skin. These minerals are lightweight, have healing properties for problem skin, flawless coverage, and feel like you're wearing nothing!
Aren't all mineral makeup brands the same?
Absolutely not. Our cosmetics have nothing but the purest, finest ingredients that nature can offer. Read the little tiny print on the ingredient label. You won't find any skin irritants like Bismuth or talc, no dyes, no fillers to fluff things up to appear like you're getting more, and no preservatives. Unlike some other brands, you don't need any veils to keep your mineral makeup on your face. Our finishing powders are optional. Our setting powders can add a more "matte" finish and are helpful for those with oily skin to absorb the oil, while the Diamond Perfect Finish will give a soft focus, airbrushed look. Run a tissue over your face while wearing another brand. More often than not, you'll wipe your makeup right off. Now do the same with Purely Cosmetics: your makeup stays where it belongs - on your face!
One of the unique features to our product line is the attention to detail. Nothing gets added into Purely Cosmetic's product line without undergoing testing on real people for ease of use, color, quality, smoothness, and feel. Each order is handcrafted; we have no large warehouses with pre-packaged products sitting on shelves. page can help you narrow down which choices would most likely suit you best, and our sample sizes take the risk out of ordering. Any foundation may be purchased in a tester size, or you can mix and match with our 3-Pack Foundation sample. Purchasing the foundation samples with the appropriate foundation brush is recommended for proper application. We don't send you your sample(s) in a small ziploc bag where most of the powder clings to the sides, and you nearly ruin your brush trying to get every bit out. Our samples are sent in 5 gram jars, sufficient for several weeks worth of use, depending on application.
What's wrong with Bismuth? Even the big companies have it!
Just because a company is well known, has plenty of money for slick marketing and informercials, doesn't make them the best, or confirm that they're using the best ingredients. You'll find that most larger companies will use inexpensive fillers and ingredients in their makeup to bulk up the product or enhance it's visual appeal. A significant amount of women find Bismuth Oxychloride to be a skin irritant, and even those who aren't bothered by it on a day to day basis will discover that their face is red and itchy when they're warm. Bismuth is included as it imparts that "glow", in addition to improving the tactile feel of the powder between your fingers. These properties can also be achieved using less irritating, but more expensive ingredients.
Quoted from WebMD:
"Bismuth oxychloride is a mineral, but it's not found in the earth. Bismuth is a byproduct of lead and copper processing. Bismuth oxychloride is also frequently used to fill or "bulk up" or bind products, says Adams, and some say it comes with a heavy price. Bismuth oxychloride is considered a skin irritant and can cause itching and rashes and in large amounts it can cause cystic acne as well – it's one of the ingredients you should try to avoid if you have acne or rosacea or sensitive skin," says Frew, who also reminds us that some products in a line have this ingredient, while others do not. "Some products also contain very little, so it doesn't act like an irritant, but you won't know until you try it."

Where do you ship?
We ship to all 50 states via USPS. Because we package our powders only when filling your order, it is labor intensive. As a result, a handling charge is added to each order - regardless of the number of products you buy. We've had several customers inquire about this fee. Many factors influence shipping that simply cannot be built in to the price. Depending on what is ordered and the total number of products, orders may be shipped in padded envelopes while others in boxes, depending on how your order will best fit. The cost of the box, padded envelope, inside packaging (peanuts, ziploc bags, etc), labels, any customs forms that may need to be completed, etc are all part of this fee. We chose to not absorb these fees into the retail price as our international customers pay duty based on retail price exclusive of shipping. All orders are shipped within one business day of receipt of payment. We can also ship Priority Mail (2-3 day delivery) or Express Mail (overnight delivery*) for an additional fee. We will ship internationally as allowed by your local country's customs.
What are your payment methods?
We accept MasterCard, Visa, Discover and Money Orders. We ask you to use the PayPal option only if you are using an American Express card or have no credit cards, as they have horrific customer service.
Do you offer Gift Certificates?
We most certainly do. Click here for our GIFT CERTIFICATE INFORMATION.
